About Moto GP

Moto GP is the premier class of motorcycle racing. Moto GP is split into three classes including 125cc, Moto 2 and Moto GP, however it is Moto GP that is considered the top of the tree, hence they get the most attention.

The Moto GP season is fought out between four teams. These are Ducati, Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha. While there are individual teams that come under each constructor’s banner, all the teams in Moto GP run a bike made by one of these manufacturers.

There are a number of engine specifications that must be followed to ensure a fair race. In Moto GP the maximum engine size is 800cc, while the maximum power level allowed is 240 bhp. Moto GP bikes have been clocked going as fast as 349 km/h!

The Moto GP series started in 1962. Legendary Italian Giacomo Agostini holds the record for most titles with 15, however he is being chased down by Valentino Rossi, who has nine wins. Aussie Mick Doohan owned the Moto GP class in the 1990’s, capturing the World Title five times in a row from 1994-8.
