About Rugby Union

Rugby Union has been described as the game they play in heaven. Well it seems to have spread from heaven to the rest of the world.

Asides from soccer Rugby Union is the only football code that is played on an elite level on all of the world’s continents. The IRB (International Rugby Board) has 115 member nations.

Rugby Union is played on a 100mx70m pitch, with each side consisting of 15 players. Like all football codes the aim of the game is to score more points than the opposition.

The central rule of Rugby Union is the fact that a player cannot pass or kick the ball to any player in front of them.

The most frequent way to score in rugby union is by scoring a try. A player earns five points if they can successfully place the ball on the ground behind the opposition’s line. A player can then attempt to score two more points by kicking a conversion goal from in line with where the try was scored. Penalty goals and drop goals are each worth three points.
